I gritted my teeth as Venia ripped yet another sticky strip of cloth from my lower leg, and I swear I could hear every hair being ripped from my leg.
"Okay, last one, I promise!" Octavia pipped handing Venia the last of those vile cloths.
Rip!
"OW!"
"Done! My goodness, people in District 12 are like hairy little monkeys!" I wasn't sure if that was an insult or not, so I ignored it as I listened to Flavius telling me about his new pink lapdog.
"Nero is very good. He only ever does his business in his little pan, and he is very trim thanks to Beete's new dog treadmill!" Flavius pipped as his painted my nails the same color as my dress.
I winced as Venia rubbed some kind of cream all over my body, that stung, then calmed by irritated skin. Octavia was working away at my hair making it smoother than it has d been in months! I secretly wondered how on earth Mom had the patience for all this beauty work!
"Ooo! Heres your dress! Arms up!" I held up my arms as Venia pulled the white interview dress on. It felt pretty heavy. Octavia, giggling at my confused look, explained "We had to add some more layers to the skirt when we realized how skinny you were!" I had no clue what this had to do with anything, but then again I have no clue about anything fashion.
There was a knock on the door. "Can we come in?" Dad asked peeking his head around the door. "Well you're already half way in!" I exclaimed in fake frustration. Dad threw open the door, and I saw that Mom, and Cinna were behind him, all dressed in matching white outfits.
"Honey you look beautiful!" Mom exclaimed little tears welling in her eyes.
(My Interview Dress!)
One Hour Later....
"And now, everyone's favorite host Caeser Flickerman!" A voice boomed out over the crowd at the old Training Center, as Caeser Flickerman the old Hunger Games interviewer, waltzed onto the stage (this year his hair, lips, and eyebrows is dyed metallic gold).
"Welcome! Tonight we have some very important guests! First, the darlings of Panem... Finch and Cinna Mellark!" The crowd's cheer filled my ears as Caeser directed me and Cinna onto the stage, and into a family sized couch, center stage.
"And now, you all know them. From tributes, to victors, to liberators.... Please welcome Katniss and Peeta Mellark!" The crowd responded with a earth shattering roar that made my very bones vibrate.
"And now, you all know them. From tributes, to victors, to liberators.... Please welcome Katniss and Peeta Mellark!" The crowd responded with a earth shattering roar that made my very bones vibrate.
After Caeser managed to silence the crowd, he immediately began the questions.
"So Katniss, Peeta, its been how long since you've been in the Capitol?"
"Almost twenty nine years." Mom answered
"Wow! And I understand little Finch here is how old?"
"Fourteen."
"My goodness, they grow up so fast don't they!" Caeser exclaimed playfully patting my head. The harmless motion reminded me of the day two weeks ago when Mom had slapped Gale. But now Mom's face was bright and happy. Not clouded and distant.
"And Peeta, I understand you hijacking is almost nonexistent?"
"Well, there are times when it comes back for a second, but I can usually tell when its coming and get a grip on it."
"Well that is indeed a relief! Now do you mind if I ask the children a few questions?"
This took me by surprise. I was just expecting Mom and Dad to do all the talking.
"Cinna, I must ask you this (the ladies want to know), is there anyone special in your life?"
"Huh?" Cinna asked confused.
"Oh you know, a special girl." Cinna blushed such a deep red I couldn't help but laugh.
"Looks like your sister knows the answer! Haha, but do tell us what her name is!"
Cinna opened and shut his mouth several times before answering.
"Er... Must I?" Man, Cinna is good at working the crowd, just like Dad.
"Yes of course!" Caeser laughed as the crowds cheers back him up.
"Her name is... Um..."
"Out with it Cinna!" Mom giggled.
"I would quite like to know myself." Dad laughed.
"Hannah Abernathy. Darn, I really shouldn't have said that! " Cinna said covering his mouth with his hand.
"I KNEW IT!" I squealed, how many times had I caught him looking at Effie and Haymitch's lovely thirteen year old daughter?
The camera cut to a close up of Hannah, who was backstage sitting next to her mother. Her face was beet red, but she too was laughing
"Oh dear, I certainly have a lot to teach you Cinna!" Dad laughed, probably remembering an interview just like this were he confessed his love for Mom. Oh the irony!
Caesar had managed to rein in the crowd, and was now ready to move on to me. Oh dear.
"Finch, what do you think of your brother's little secret. From your little outburst you knew?" Caesar smiled at me, making my stage fright disappear instantly.
"Yea I had a feeling, but I'm not going to say more. I'm already dead a million times over for that outburst." The crowd laughed. Up until then I had completely forgotten they were there! So I smiled cheekily and sweetly at the camera and waved.
"We'll make sure you are still around to hear from Hannah tomorrow at least!"
The crowd was going absolutely starkers at this point, but I was dreading what I knew was coming.
"So, Finch, any one special?"
"You mean besides my cat?" The crowd laughed lightly.
"Oh you know!" Caesar prompted.
"Yea, tell em sis!" Cinna lightly punched my arm.
"No. Nobody as of yet." I waved my hand as if dismissing the question.
"Oh well, maybe in the next year or so."
"Hopefully not!"
"Hahaha, and back to the parents!" The adults chattered back and forth for awhile. Discussing everything from Cinna and Hannah, to the new music chip Beete was inventing.
"Well thats all the time we have for today! Tune in tomorrow for live coverage of The Hunger Games Memorial feast!" Caesar signed off. The anthem of Panem played. Then we were whisked off to the old Training Center.
I played around in the shower for a little bit, testing all the knobs and buttons until I was cleaner than I had ever been in my life! I stepped on the the mat outside the shower and was instantly dried by the hot hair coming from it. Then I placed my hand on the box that instantly untangled and dried my hair. After choosing a comfortable nightgown from the huge wardrobe, I ordered come ht cocoa, watched the repeat of the interviews (laughing at Cinna's confession), then climbed into my bed. And now I'm typing this while finishing the last bit of my cocoa!
Tune in later for the Hunger Games Memorial Feast!
